Iceland: Part Five

Finally we’ve made it to the end of my adventures in Iceland and what an incredible week it was! I was constantly on the go every day trying to make the most of the short time I had. Considering it was the longest distance I have ever traveled from home, it was amazing to have so many new experiences during this time. By the end of my week I was very tired and ready to catch up on sleep, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way! I spent Friday evening on my last day taking in one final glorious sunset and walking around beautiful downtown Reykjavik.

As soon as I saw the amazing array of pink and purple hues strewn across the bay, I knew I had to get out there and capture it. It was still cold but the fresh air was wonderful, because I spent many kilometres during the week sitting on buses between locations. I also was reminded of how much I missed the unique Sydney sunsets, particularly as I left during the middle of summer. There is nothing better than standing back and appreciating cloud formations, which resemble an artist’s palette during a balmy summer evening. I returned to many of the streets I had visited a few days previously, just taking in the architecture and atmosphere of the city. It was a transitional period in which the city inhabitants were beginning to prepare for a change of season, with summer just on the horizon.

Iceland has been one of my favourite destinations I have visited so far and I suspect it will always remain so. I already want to return one day and expand on my visit to see what else the country has to share. Thank you Iceland for your hospitality and your tranquility, a truly unique nation with so much to offer!

Thank you for reading my posts throughout my adventure to Iceland, but the journey doesn’t end here. Soon I will be recounting the ten days I spent exploring in beautiful Scotland. So keep an eye out for those posts coming soon!
