Liverpool: Home of the Beatles

Ah Liverpool, one of the many historic cities within England, and one which forms a vital part of the country’s musical culture. I was initially excited to visit because I wanted to see some of the coastline and the ocean, which I hadn’t seen since leaving Australia two months ago. I also find it interesting to see how different many of the cities are within the UK, given how close many of them actually are.

Stonehenge: A Natural Wonder

Today’s post is from my trip to Stonehenge. Originally I had never planned to go and visit Stonehenge during this trip, as its fairly out of the way if you don’t have access to a car or a tour. Luckily a friend had been sent an email advising us of a tour for students and we knew we had to take advantage of it. Stonehenge is approximately a 4 hour drive from the midlands, which was a nice way of seeing more of the countryside.

The City of Manchester

Today we explored the city of Manchester, the biggest UK city outside of London. Manchester has a long industrial history with ties as far back as the Roman settlements. If you’re interested in more on the history of the city, have a look here. The city is also home to many of Britain’s iconic bands, such as The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis, 10cc, Joy Division and The Verve to name just a few.

Exploring Keele

After a few very busy days, I have finally settled into my new home for the coming months. This meant that we finally had some time to ourselves to go out and explore our new surroundings. And there sure was much to take in, even with a normal English grey winter’s day, we had no problem roaming around the green surrounds.

It’s just clicked past 4:50 am and the final part of my journey to the other side of the world is now over, having been spread across 23 long hours. Flying long distances truly reminds me of how tiny Australia really is within the broad scheme of the world.
